WorkSafe Queensland releases psychosocial hazards guidelines

WorkSafe Queensland has released a Code of Practice for managing psychosocial hazards at the workplace.

Psychosocial impacts on the worksite can leave you fatigued, exhausted and possible impact your professional and personal life.

Ignoring these hazards will impact your work and could possibly lead to not only mental stress, but possibly physical injury.

Hazards can include:

  • Demanding work
  • Lack of support or role clarity
  • Lack of recognition or reward
  • Traumatic events
  • Isolated work
  • Unsafe physical environment
  • Aggression, bullying or harassment
  • Poor workplace interactions and relationships

The Code of Practice is in line with WHS Regulations established in October. The code outlines what a psychosocial hazard actually is, and a business’s obligation to identify and mitigate those risks.

The guide assists you in:

  • Identifying hazards
  • Assessing risks
  • Selecting Control Measures
  • Maintaining and reviewing control measures and
  • Responding to complaints, incidents or reports of psychosocial hazards at work.

Master Builders Queensland will be hosting briefings and formal training to prep business owners for the code, which will be implemented April 1 2023.
