For this test, we hit up chippy Nebal Abilmona from Sealand Building, who noticed right away how much more accurate, clear and durable this was compared to his previous distance measurers.
Test #1: green machine
Nebal put the GLL 50 G through its paces, using it for installing door, window, hand rail and cabinet installations. It is also perfect for non-carpentry purposes such as plumbing or electrical installation as well as tiling purposes.
The GLL 50 G has a measuring accuracy of +/- 0.6mm/m – in other words, it’s insanely accurate.
“We’ve used it for multiple applications, what I love is the two-line laser which means you can clearly see vertical and horizontal lines,” Nebal said.
“It’s got a range of 15m, and that awesome level of accuracy is maintained throughout that distance.”
Bocsh has gone with a green laser with this device, which compared to the red lasers of yesteryear, is way easier on the eyes.
“It’s got a very powerful beam … it’s thin but very clear,” Nebal added.
“You can see it in a light room, you can see it clearly in a dark room – it’s great.”
Adding to this powerful beam is the GLL 50 G’s smart pendulum system. This feature allows the measurer to self-level and it will flash if the device somehow becomes out-of-level.
Test #2: LIGHT AND EASY
One major benefit Nebal noted with the GLL 50 G is its compact size.
“It’s definitely not your traditional laser that you lug around from site to site,” he said.
“This laser level is small, compact and light. It fits in your toolbox and you can chuck it on your passenger seat.”
Despite its size, the GLL 50 G its protected by a thick rubber casing with an IP 55 rating protecting it from dust and water jets.
Another plus of not being a ‘traditional laser’ is the GLL 50 G’s ease of use. You can take it straight out of the box, flick the massive ‘on’ switch and away you go.
Like all things Bosch, the battery is another huge plus here. The GLL 50 G has a dual battery system, meaning it can take either or both alkaline batteries or a rechargeable Li-Ion battery pack*.
Nebal loved having options when it came to batteries and being able to charge the Li-Ion battery pack and still use the measurer with alkaline batteries.
Ultimate Green lantern
As far as laser measurers go, Bosch’s GLL 50 G Professional keeps things simple for tradies.
It’s durable, no-nonsense and accurate as Nebal points out in this review. He particularly loved using it on measuring out bulkheads and cabinets.
“Lasers are awesome if we’re doing bulkheads, this was easy to setup and measure for those bigger tasks,” Nebal said.
“All-in-all, my favourite thing about this laser is how small, but powerful it is.”
