Tradie Tough Test: Gainsborough’s Quick Fix Avant door handles

Gainsborough door handles, deadbolts and door locks are designed to suit the needs of everyday Australians. This includes Gainsborough’s QuickFix (time-saving installation technology) and its 15- year mechanical warranty.

QuickFix technology has been cleverly engineered to simplify the installation of door hardware by reducing the number of parts required for assembly. It also simplifies the mechanism for installation, a massive feature for both DIYers and professional installers like Wade Lazich from Laz Doors.

The Avant range consists of thoughtfully designed levers combined with premium on-trend finishes and includes three stylish designs and five finishes: Satin Brass, Brushed Satin Chrome, Bright Chrome, Satin Graphite and Matt Black, options which ensure the range suites a wide variety of interior-design styles for both locking and non-locking internal doors.

The three styles include: the Alba Lever, which is a straight, slimline profile with rounded edges which slightly softens its look; the Rivera Lever, a more modern design which meets more practical solutions and has an ergonomic finger cutout for unparalleled comfort; and lastly, the Sierra Lever features a front-profile taper and wide surface, which makes it comfortable to use while creating a contemporary look with a designer feel.

EASE OF INSTALLATION

Each box holds the lever of choice, one latch, along with the template and instructions. The template is easy to follow for both experienced tradies and DIYers. Watching our
pro door-installer Wade prepare the door for the furniture installations was smooth and effortless. After marking out the required elements and drilling out areas for both the latch and face of the door to house the QuickFix furniture, a bit of quick chisel work had Wade fitting the preinstalled studs and screws.
The QuickFix bezel simply rotates to lock the lever in place and is then covered by the rose cover once the screws have been tightened. “Essentially, if you are replacing door levers, you can be done in less than a minute if the tasks of latch and strike installation has already been completed,” jambed Wade.

LOOK AND FEEL

The completed Alba lever installation looks impressive and sets the scene for a clean, modern presentation with its elegant thin profile. It creates a modern look which will perfectly suit most minimalist interior designs. The lever and rose are constructed out of high-purity zinc alloy, and the optional ‘passage’, non-locking function means it can be used throughout the home in areas such as living or bedrooms.

THE WRAP UP

Built for speed, Gainsborough’s latest QuickFix technology revolutionises the fixing mechanism, allowing for significantly faster hardware installations with reduced costs and labour time
– all while adding stylish design and premium quality. With solid, high-quality construction and built for timber doors with a 60mm backset, it’s not surprising Gainsborough was a Good Design Award winner in 2019 for its Outstanding Design and Innovation. The inclusion of five on-trend finishes is a perfect final touch for any home.
