On the drilling front, the Bosch Expert SDS max-8X and SDS plus-7X drill bits have been designed for high-stress and heat resistance, with long-lasting welded bonding between the steel body and the carbide head of the drill bit. Welded bonding is always more resistant than a brazed bonding, which is what you want when drilling into concrete and rebar.
Using Bosch Carbide Technology, made for professionals who need to process some of the toughest materials daily, the Bosch SDS range offers hammer-drill bits with full carbide-head technology from 3.5mm (SDS-plus) up to 32mm (SDS-max) we figured this would be a pretty good place to start our testing.
TEST #1 EXPERT SDS PLUS-7X HAMMER BIT
Our test site had a large section of an old ground slab which was due to ripped up and made the perfect test slab due to its thickness, hardness and being loaded with rebar. The 16mm bit with 4 cutter head was slicing into the slab with ease and it took a couple of goes before we hit the rebar in the slab. The bit spun in place for no more than 10-15 seconds before it had sliced through the steel and finished the hole. After picking up numerous sections of rebar in our test drilling, the 16mm SDS Plus Expert Drill bit was still sharp and powering along. Bosch is claiming up to 3x longer life due to its exceptionally durable carbide drill-bit tip with 4-cutter head, and after experiencing it firsthand, I don’t doubt this claim at all. The 90-degree pyramid tip also makes for precision placement and accuracy.
TEST #2 RECIPRO AND HOLE SAW
Next in line for testing was the Expert Wood with Metal Demolition Recipro Blade. We sliced through nail-embedded timber with ease, and the teeth still looked and felt sharp and in perfect condition after our two-dozen or so cuts. The tapered tip reached deeper into tight spaces producing easy-to-control, clean cuts. Bosch have produced this blade to take cutting through nail embedded timber in its stride.Last on our to-test list was the Expert Tough Material Hole Saw and Fast Arbor. This combo was exceptional in terms of both the quality of the cuts as well as the ease and speed of the Arbor. The excellent design made removing the plug very easy, and produced great results with the Bosch Carbide Technology, with the individual teeth being made from fine, super-hard carbide. You will feel and see the improved cutting performance of this hole saw.
