Rubber kid speed-blur

Created back in 2001, the Red Bull X-Fighters concept has grown to become the biggest and most respected freestyle motocross tour on the planet. And this year, more than 100,000 spectators will watch the world’s best FMX riders defy gravity in their quest to out perform and out trick each other in a revamped World Tour schedule that comprises five stops, including two new spectacular venues in Greece and the United Arab Emirates.

In this photo, New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood gets snapped mid-flight during a stunt at Mexico City’s Plaza de Toros. Better known as the “Rubber Kid”, 23-year-old Sherwood grew up on two wheels and has spent the last 18 years following in the footsteps of his father, Dave Sherwood; a former professional speedwayracer.

And having previously competed on the Crusty Tour and battled in national events in his native New Zealand and Australia, in 2009, Levi won his first Red Bull X-Fighters contest in Mexico City as a wildcard at 17-years-of-age.

Will one of FX’s most revered athletes take out another World Championship this year? Don’t let this year’s tour pass you by in speed-blur fashion.
