The Mag

Wimp 2 Warrior

Transforming John Doe into a cage-fighting hero

A funny thing happens when you’re being punched in the face. Everything you’ve ever learned about breathing and technique goes out the window as your inner-mongrel kicks in.

Boom. I get clipped again, exhausted and sweaty. Why are you here? And then I get belted once more. Do you have the heart? The will to grind?

Day in and day out, before the sun even thinks about rising. I’m totally shattered and spent, and so I wonder: Is that my coach’s voice or mine whirling around in my head? My name is Danny Allen. I’m also a wimp.

I’m one of 65 contestants in season three of “Wimp 2 Warrior” which is also dubbed “The Ultimate Human Experiment”.

It’s everyday men and women, with little-to-no previous MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) experience, handpicked from hundreds of nation-wide applications and thrown into a six-month professional fight camp.

It’s boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, plus strength and conditioning and it’s run by a team of specialist coaches, including three times UFC lightweight champion, Jens Pulver (the first ex-UFC champ to coach full-time in Australia).
