Gents falling short – time to lather up!

Guys, we’ve all been there. You’re heading to work, and the sun is barely up so we skip on the sunscreen.
Fast forward to lunch time – you touch your face – and you’re as burnt as a crispy, red lobster.

As we come into summer, it’s always vital to be making sure you’re sun smart, especially when you’re on the worksite all day outside in the sun.
New research released by the Cancer Council Australia found only 49 per cent of Aussie men seek shade to keep out of the sun during summer, and as much as 29 per cent don’t regularly use sunscreen.

“Not only does our research indicate that Australian men aren’t being safe in the sun, it also shows that almost half (47%) of men often or always spend time outside during peak UV hours throughout summer,” Cancer Council Australia Director of Cancer Control Policy Megan Varlow said.
“This tells us that more needs to be done to remind people of the easy steps they can take to reduce their risk of skin cancer every day.”

So, what’s the solution?

It might bring back major primary school vibes, but it’s time to slip, slop, seek and slide.

Slip on sun protective clothing (shirtless on the site is tempting, I know), slop on some sunscreen (broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30+ works best), slap on a protective hat, and slide on some sunnies.

It’s a pain to do now, but your body will thank you later, was it’ll be as protected again skin cancer as you are over the pile of random crap in the shed (you’ll use those broken tongs one day, right?)
