A new group buying site has launched the first online platform for the trades and home renovation industry, providing up to 80 percent discounts on a range of building and DIY supplies.
The company is specifically targeting both sectors worth $176 billion and $32 billion respectively last financial year.
Trade Saver managing director Tobias Diamand says it has secured one of Australia’s largest hardware chains, Hudson Building Supplies, to help promote the concept.
“Group buying has exploded onto the Australian market in recent years and the sudden rise of websites dedicated to giving cheaper prices has been popular with consumers,” Mr Diamand says.
“However while most sites offer a contrasting collection of products from hair care to balloon flight, our model specifically targets a single category, the trades and building industry.
“Trade Saver is designed to offer the best deals to both the professional trades person and DIY home renovator, and having a large company like Hudson on board means we can offer massive savings on a huge range of products.”
Some of the first deals to be offered include designer bathroom basins discounted by almost 70 percent, floor tiles and paint by 60 percent and skip bags by over 30 percent, with dozens more to be loaded.
Hudson Building Supplies General Manager, Bryn Harrison, says the company has been considering a move into online sales and believes its relationship with Trade Saver will mean it will be one of the first in the hardware market to do so in Australia.
“The big three national hardware chains only offer limited online services, however there is a definite need to take the sales component of the building and hardware sector online,” Mr Harrison says.
“Partnering with Trade Saver will mean we can essentially test the online sales environment without committing to a full scale merchant site.
“We are very excited about the potential this initiative will offer, not only for our business but customers as well.”
Hudson has been supplying building products to the trades and public for more than 160 years and has an extensive store network throughout metropolitan and regional NSW and Queensland.
Mr Diamand says the platform will also act as a promotional and advertising vehicle for the exposure of businesses to the trades community, alongside them offering cheaper supplies.
“This is potentially a very powerful marketing tool for suppliers who wish to get their name out into the market quickly and cost effectively,” Mr Diamand says.
“With a background in the trade industry ourselves, we found there is constant need for connecting to new suppliers and locating the best prices, which is what prompted us to develop an online solution.
“Now trades people and renovators can save themselves the running around and get the best deals from the click of a mouse.”
