I was on the nail gun when my ol’ mate ‘Kempster’ rang. We hadn’t spoken in a while and he was always pretty entertaining, so I took his call…
“Colonel… What’s doing, mate? The boys have been busting their guts and want a little breather,” he said.
“We’re thinking about a boy’s only trip away… 4WDing… Bluewater Fishing… Exploring… Lithcfield National Park… Kakadu… Darwin…”
Sold. I was in. There was no way I was going to miss out on a few days of frivolity and fun with a top bunch of blokes. The crew was made up of handful of lads from Sydney’s Northern Beaches: Kempster and Greedy the builders, Borgy the excavator driver and Thomo the landscaper, along with a few local Darwin boys.
We hit the tarmac after a four-hour flight. The Northern Territory air slapped our faces and caused sweat to run down our brows like a wild wet-season torrent.
We collected our 4WD and supplies and prepped for the following days drive to Litchfield National Park.
This first leg of the trip consisted of a 750 kilometre drive via the impressive Dangy Falls and the Lost City; a truly majestic and ancient rock formation that rises out of a mostly flat landscape.
